Madre Adoptiva

So, remember back a couple posts ago when I talked about starting a running routine? Well, I've been consistently running three days a week since then. It's only been three weeks, but I'm proud of that. However, it's becoming more and more difficult to drag my sorry butt out of my bed at the crack of dawn those three days. I've realized I need more motivation.

I've registered for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on October 4th. It's a 5k (3.1 miles) and it's untimed. The part about it being untimed is very important. I figure it will take me about three hours, 14 minutes, based on my current speed. Maybe I'll be faster by then, but I've never run more than a mile and 3 miles is bound to drop me more than once. I've got to factor in the whole lying on the pavement writhing in pain thing.

A big part of why I decided to run is because breast cancer is something that has touched my family. My maternal grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer and eventually died of cancer which had spread to her bones. My hopes is to raise money to go towards not only finding a cure, but also helping under-served patients with treatments they may not otherwise have access to.

I don't want to come right out and ask you to donate, but hey, will you support my run and donate towards finding a cure and helping some under-served patients get treatment for breast cancer? Either way, I'll appreciate your support and encouragement!

I'm still not sure if I'm going to attempt the run. Lisa wants me to. I wonder if she thinks I have some money hidden somewhere. Hmmm. Anyhow, I will at least monetarily support yours and Lisa's run.
